Struggling to find a product that moisturizes dry skin without upsetting oily skin? Read the Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-Full Clear Cream review to find out what we thought about this multi-skin type compatible cream!
I have always been a fan of the Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Cream—both in cream form and mask form—and was super excited to try out the Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-full Clear Cream.
Anyone who has combination skin knows your face can be hard to please. I myself have a dry forehead and jaw that’s just begging for more moisturizer, but my nose is always freaking out and in need of some sebum control. Next to applying different regimens altogether to different areas of my face, the only real solution is finding a product that miraculously addresses all of those needs—and that can sometimes be a difficult task.
I’ve found relief in the Missha Clear Cream because it effetively hydrates my dry areas while keeping my oilier parts protected from producing too much sebum. Read on for my in-depth review.
What it looks like:
The packaging is really appealing and reminds me of having a small iceberg in a pot. Very sleek and smooth, the jar feels just as hydrating, soft, and water-full as the product itself.
What’s in it:
This cream includes Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice (a.k.a. White Birch) and Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, both great for skin conditioning and anti-aging, respectively.
But the real star of this cream is hyaluronic acid. This acid, which is actually naturally produced by our bodies, in skin care comes in a smaller molecular form making it possible for our skin to absorb it and all of its wonderful benefits. It’s great for anti-aging and hydrating dry skin and the results are typically very visible. This was definitely the case with the Missha Clear Cream. My skin felt plumper yet firmer, and had a bit of shine to it, but more of a healthy clean one than an oily one. I felt the hydration mostly in my cheeks and forehead.
Another huge plus is that this particular cream is oil-free! It is filled with all kinds of goodness like citric acid, baobab tree extract, glacier water, and pseudoalteromonas ferment extract—all of which are amazing for firming and hydrating skin—and none of which are oil-based. This keeps this particular cream ingredient-rich and hydrating which helps to balance out oil production, making this cream great for more oily or acne-prone skin types.
The fragrance and texture:
The gel texture of the Missha Clear Cream reminded me a bit of its snail counterpart, but on the more clear and watery side. It can be a bit tricky to get the cream onto your fingers just by touching it, so I definitely recommend a slight scoop against the side of the container.
For anyone with sensitive skin, the fragrance, or almost lack thereof, is a dream. Personally, my skin is not a fan of heavy scents and even light, fresh ones can irritate it. And some unscented products just smell downright clinical. Thankfully the clear cream is fresh and ingredient-rich without the smell.
How it felt to put it on:
Like I said, once you find a way to get it out of the container, it effectively glides right on the skin. It’s also cool to the touch, which feels great on tired skin at the end of the day. Although it has very little scent and lives up to its “water-full” name, it is a fairly rich product that takes a bit of time to soak all of the way in.
Why it was awesome:
I could definitely feel the difference of the hyaluronic acid. My normal nighttime moisturizer is more of a lotion that definitely does not have HA in it, and I could feel the way this product actually sealed my skin in addition to sinking into it. I also really loved the way it made my skin feel in the morning. Usually in the summer I wake up with a sort of shine, but after about 4 days of switching to this moisturizer I felt like I didn’t have that excess oil and my skin type was more balanced throughout my face.
Things I would fix:
For up to about 20 minutes after application there was a bit of product on the surface of my skin, it took quite a while to soak in. The clear cream is pretty saturated and I was generous with it at night, especially in areas where I get especially dry patches on my forehead and my jaw line. It wasn’t any different from that feeling after wearing certain sheet masks, where your skin feels a bit sticky. However, after it did fully absorb, my face was firm and I really felt like it had sealed in a great dose of hydration.
Bottom line:
Considering the very different needs of my face, and my very sensitive skin, I think this product would work well with almost any skin type. It’s super gentle and effective and a great solution if you need to get a concentrated boost of hydration for your nighttime routine. Plus, the oil-free formula makes it safe to use on extra oily skin without the fear of breakouts and unwanted midday sheen.
