Travel Diary: Coffee at Le Alaska

 I’ve always raved about cafe culture in Seoul, so I thought it would be fun to document a little bit of my morning at one with Ken from Korean lifestyle blog Seoul State of Mind. He introduced me to a popular cafe and bakery called Le Alaska, known for their flaky pastries that rival those at French bakeries. The cafe is also known for their “Alaska” iced teas, which look like mini icebergs: Imagine a big cup of tea with a pile of fluffy, frozen snow floating on top.

Even though Le Alaska is located in the trendy shopping and restaurant district of Garosugil, I had never seen it or been to it before because it’s tucked away in an alley away from the main strip, making it a gem off the beaten track.

I swear these pastries were as light, flaky, and buttery as the ones I had in France.

 Ken is originally from London, and I’m from California, so it was fun catching up on our experiences as expats in Seoul. I enjoyed hearing Ken’s perspective about some of the good and not-so-good experiences that accompany that life.

Pastries, definitely a good experience.

 

We went early at 10am so we could avoid the crowds, and I’m glad we did.

 

Loved the cafe because I was able to see the bakers do their thing.

 

We got a nice little nook near the window.

 

Later, I caught up on writing postcards.

 

It was a quiet, pleasant morning inside a cozy cafe away from the cold. If you ever find yourself wandering the streets of Seoul, stop by.
