Stories From a Curator is a column by Charlotte Cho, the curator and cofounder of Soko Glam. As a licensed esthetician and the author of The Little Book of Skin Care, Cho gives a glimpse into her discovery process and what brands and products make the cut for the curated site.
Do you still shop for skincare products based on the “maturity” of your skin? It’s a bad but common habit that we need to reset. We’ve long believed in using age as a factor in what skincare products you use, fueled by years of how products have been marketed to you. That’s why for my review of the Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon, I’d like to not focus on my age, but instead share a few specific concerns that I have and how this amazing product will help treat them.
As an esthetician, I wouldn’t ever recommend skincare products based on age, because everyone has unique skin conditions and concerns at any age. Case-in-point: Not every 16 year old has the same issues, and neither does every 40 year old!
For example, my concerns are:
- Fine lines mainly around my forehead and eyes.
- Pigmentation and uneven skin tone because years of unprotected sun exposure during my youth is finally catching up.
- Loss of elasticity and dullness in the skin, which can make me look really tired–no matter how great my coffee high is.
- Hormonal acne
That being said, I’ve talked to many people my age that are more concerned about dark circles, sensitivity and redness. (Hope this helps you understand why you should not pick a product based on your age!)
Do you relate to any of my concerns above? Then read on to see why I use the Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon to address most of these concerns in one go!
What is the Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon?
An innovative exfoliating pad that offers all-in-one benefits of both chemical and physical exfoliation. It’s a physical exfoliator because it’s a textured pad soaked in lemon, orange and papaya extracts as well as AHA’s such as glycolic acid and lactic acid, while the textured side physically sloughs off dead skin cells. (I’ve already reviewed the innovative technology about the Neogen Bio Peel Gauze pads and how to use them step by step in this previous post, so feel free to check it out here.)
How does it help minimize fine lines?
It’s simple. Many of the fine lines you may have are very visible thanks to dead skin cells. When you exfoliate with the Neogen Bio Peel Lemon, the textured pad works to buff away dead skin cells that may be causing more pronounced visibility of those fine lines.
How does it bring back elasticity to skin?
With the layer of dead skin cells now gently lifted off your skin, it allows better absorption of your hydrating skincare treatment products that follow. The effect is bouncier, more hydrated skin!
How does it help fade pigmentation?
What I love about this particular Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon is the specific focus on lemon extracts which is high in skin brightening Vitamin C! Multiple studies show that vitamin C in particular is one of the strongest antioxidants that help fade dark spots and even out skin tone. But with any physical or chemical exfoliator, don’t forget to wear sunscreen afterwards if you’re going outside to protect you from UV rays!
How does it help hormonal acne?
Hormonal acne doesn’t disappear because much of it is internal, so no matter what you put on your skin you may still have to deal with its reoccurring “visits.” While this pad doesn’t make hormonal acne go away per say, thankfully it does help buff away the post-inflammatory pigmentation that I deal with afterwards.
The final word
It’s so gentle and easy to use, I could use it every night right before I put on my skin care products. The fragrance, just like the invigorating wine flavor, smells like you just cut up a bunch of fresh lemons and is an instant pick-me-up.
Most importantly, the result of this innovative exfoliator that helps me tackle all of my current skin concerns: it gave me a soft and bouncy skin texture, a brighter complexion, and less fine lines to think about!
