Pomegranate has many life-saving and anti-aging benefits, such as the prevention of cancer and shielding the skin from environmental damage. According to Arbonne Scientific Advisor and dermatologist, Dr. Naissan O. Wesley, “Pomegranates, like raspberries, contain tannins, anthocyanins, and other polyphenols such as ellagitannins, namely ellagic acid, which are powerful antioxidants that may also have anti-cancer benefits. Like other antioxidants, [pomegranate] can be helpful at any age in repairing and protecting from sun and environmental damage.”
You may be thinking that it’s best to tackle signs of aging once they emerge. However, San Francisco-based dermatologist Dr. Caren Campbell says to start incorporating antioxidant-rich products into your routine before signs of aging appear. “It is best to start using an antioxidant in your 20s when the aging process is starting to occur,” she says.
We recommend trying the Mamonde Red Energy Recovery Serum, which puts pomegranate extract front and center. It’s a serum that helps to reduce the signs of aging, prevent damage from free radicals, revive the functioning of the skin barrier, and improve skin’s firmness.
Blueberry is one of the most potent superfruits in the world. It’s loaded with vitamins A, C and E, which all work to promote cell turnover, firm and tighten, and soothe the skin. It also contains resveratrol, which can help keep acne at bay while preventing sun damage and subsequent premature aging. Blueberries are also rich in something called anthocyanin, an antioxidant-like substance that repairs damaged skin and promotes positive growth, and gallic acid, which can help reduce existing sun damage, including dryness and wrinkles.
For a boost of blueberry extract, consider trying Then I Met You’s The Giving Essence. It also contains black chokeberry, galactomyces, red algae, and polyglutamic acid that work together to transmit a boost of hydration and brightness to the skin. Also try the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner, a plant-rich extract toner to brighten, protect, and balance uneven. This toner also harnesses the properties of blueberry extract to alleviate skin stress.
Finally, let’s dish a bit on raspberry. Though it does come in extract form, you’ll often see raspberry oil listed in ingredients, as well. This sweet berry is ideal for sensitive skin types and, like strawberry and blueberry, is also a very potent antioxidant. Additionally, it’s rich in a compound called tiliroside, which reduces melanin production and can help brighten and even your complexion. Because of this ingredient, it’s common to find raspberry in sunscreens because of its ability to protect against UV rays.
For example, the Neogen Day-Light Protection Sun Screen SPF 50/PA+++, contains raspberry extract, as well as honey and rose, making it a wonderful option for sensitive and dry skin. For a great boost of moisture for your pout, try Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask, a leave-on treatment that reduces fine lines on and around the lips, and helps to plump, hydrate, and soften.
