Klog Chat: Do You Use a Different Moisturizer at Night?

Welcome to Klog Chat, a series where we ask you to tell us how you do skin care and beauty.

I spent many days this summer assisting customers at Soko House, Soko Glam’s pop-up store in New York City. It was so fun meeting fellow K-beauty fans and learning about so many different people’s skin goals and routines.
One of the most popular areas of the store was the moisturizer section. Being that it’s summer, a lot of people were looking for lightweight, fast-absorbing formulas. The COSRX Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion and the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel flew off the shelves. Then of course, there was a steady stream of people looking for soothing formulas (the Skinrx MadeCera Cream was my recommendation) and anti-aging elixirs (look to the Missha Time Revolution Immortal Youth Cream).
One thing I found interesting was that when I asked customers about what moisturizers they were currently using, the community was divided on whether or not they used a different moisturizer in the morning than at night. Some said that they prefer a light gel or cream in the AM and something a little more substantial in the evening. Some balked at the idea, while many others asked, “Wait, do I really need both?”.
The answer is no, you don’t need two different moisturizers, but it could be beneficial depending on your skin concerns. Here’s what I do:
I have normal skin that leans dry and sensitive in the winter. Right now considering it’s August, I use the same lightweight cream moisturizer both morning and night. It’s the Youth to the People Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream that has hyaluronic acid in it – a great light hydrator for humid climates. It strikes the perfect balance between being refreshing and  not too much for the day and comforting and just enough for the night.
Occasionally when I’ve been in the sun a little too much, I’ll swap in the Easydew EX Repair Control Renewal Moisture cream in the morning. The gel-like formula is perfect for treating sensitized and damaged skin, though it’s not hydrating enough for me at night.
In the winter, I not only use a different moisturizer at night, but I also add a face oil to the mix since New York City temperatures and drying indoor heating really do a number on my skin. In the AM, I apply a soothing balm like the Re:P PhytoCELL Cell Revival Cica Cream. At night, I love a nourishing sleeping mask like the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask and I seal in that hydrating goodness with a face oil such as the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil. This upcoming cold weather season I’m also excited to try the Neogen Joan Day Joan Night Cream, which conveniently contains two formulas – one formulated especially for morning use, and one just for the evening – in one tub.

Do YOU use an AM moisturizer AND a night cream? Only in the winter like me, or all year round? OR do you think it’s totally unnecessary? Share in the comments below because I want to know!
