The Luxe Hair Oil That Makes Dye Look Healthier

Find out how this British M hair oil makes hair color looks ten times better in Charlotte’s review.

Stories From a Curator is a column by Charlotte Cho, the curator and cofounder of Soko Glam. As a licensed esthetician and the author of The Little Book of Skin Care, Cho gives a glimpse into her discovery process and what brands and products make the cut for the curated site.

I’ve always been a skin girl, not so much hair.
When I told my Korean hair stylist at Jenny House, Jung Moungsim, that I don’t really put any product in my hair, she literally gasped. She said that everyone, and emphasized every woman in Korea, uses a hair oil or serum in their daily routine. (Korean women actually call hair treatments “hair essences”). Then she promptly handed me a bottle of the British M Organics Annatto Hair Oil and it quite literally looked like liquid gold:

She promised that it would nourish my hair, make it feel silky smooth, and also protect it from further sun damage. Most importantly, she said it would only take a few extra seconds out of my day to use it.
I was thrown off during this exchange for a couple reasons. First, I had no idea that hair needed SPF protection. Secondly, it was no wonder Korean women had those silky strands, even despite their love for hair dyes and bleaching. The secret was literally in my hands, and I couldn’t wait to try it.
Just for context: I have pretty coarse, damaged dry hair. I’ll admit that I have dyed my hair more times than I can count, and many times with bleach. I also heat curl my hair on a regular basis, almost 4-5 times a week!
I never thought I would ever be a hair girl, but my love for this British M hair oil is so real. It’s really transformed the way I think about hair treatments. And like she said, it only takes a minute out of my day. My hair is not only super silky and soft, but it makes my hair color look better, too. It also has this light, sophisticated scent of cedarwood and rose, which completes the whole experience. Check out my hair after using this oil regularly:

Ingredients:
The key ingredients are annatto oil, argan oil, and pumpkin seed oil, which work to naturally detangle, soften and nourish the hair. It also coats and protects your strands from the sun, which Korean stylists say is super important for the health and look of your hair. Jung told me she can tell when her international clients are from California or from New York, based on the sun damage she sees on the hair!
Consistency:
It’s lighter than Moraccan Oil and it doesn’t weigh down my hair at all. For someone who is very concerned about an oily, greasy scalp (I am very oily!), I found this to be super lightweight and easy.
Considering I am not one to use many hair products, I wasn’t sure if I was the right person to judge if this was truly as amazing as I thought it was. So I took a bunch of deluxe samples of the hair oil and passed it along to the team of women at Soko Glam who have tried everything under the sun. A week later, they were raving about it and asked me if it was going to be curated.
Bottom line:
With all the positives, the only downside is that the price point of $67 is a little high, probably because I’m not used to budgeting hair products into my routine. That being said, I’ve used this hair oil consistently for over 10 months now, and I’m not even halfway through the bottle. It’s the only hair treatment I use and a little goes a long way, and that makes the splurge well worth it. I mean, just take a look at this before and after when The Klog’s intern Emily used it:

Worth it!
How to use the British M Organics Annatto Hair Oil:
Use 1-2 pumps and tousle it into towel-dried hair. Then comb through. Whether you air-dry or use a hairdryer, your hair will feel super smooth and look shiny. If you want some extra nourishment, use 1-2 pumps, spread a thin layer of the oil over your palms, and tousle it throughout the hair so that it’s distributed evenly.
