PyeongChang is located in Gangwon Province, about 80 miles southeast of Seoul. As a tourist from Seoul, Joan knew that she would have to try something with buckwheat when she arrived. “I tried the Korean style pancakes (pajeon) and they were so good!” she raved to us. Since it’s super cold in Korea right now, she told us that if anyone were to visit PyeongChang for the games, they also have to try hotteok! A Korean winter street food staple, hotteok is a warm pancake filled with brown sugar, honey, chopped nuts, and cinnamon. It’s cooked right in front of your eyes!
Joan also visited a ton of cultural sites in PyeongChang. In her vlog, she visited the Pyeongchang Olympic Market as well as the Odaesan National Park. While visiting Odaesan, she got to do something she’d never done in Korea before. “I’ve been to a temple many times before. The only difference was that we had the time to talk and drink coffee and tea with the people who run the temple stay,” she told us.
If you’re planning on visiting Korea for the Olympics or in the future, make sure to bookmark these great Korean cultural sites!
