Struggling with dry patches this winter? The Klog has your back! Read on to find out the best moisturizing hacks you can incorporate in your skin care routine that will help heal and brighten dry skin.
Dry skin types dread chilly winter weather. But whether you’re prone to dryness or not, the cold temperatures can get to even the healthiest skin. Left unchecked, dry skin can lead to a variety of other concerns. Dry pores will try to overcompensate and produce way too much oil, which can lead to an unhealthy shine, or even breakouts. A lot of times, it may seem like you have combination skin when really your skin is just reacting to being overly dry. Another unwanted concern is flaky patches that can cause the appearance of uneven texture.
To combat these issues, here are the best moisturizing hacks that I swear by during the winter:
Double Moisturizer
If you haven’t tried the Missha Snail Renew Essential Moisturizer, you’re seriously missing out. This light yet creamy gel is the perfect blend between Hanskin Bio Origin The Cream and Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-full Clear Cream. It gives your skin that sealed-in feeling of the clear cream while adding all the velvety soft texture of the Hanskin cream.
As someone sensitive to fragrance, I really love the light and fresh smell of this Missha Snail Renew moisturizer. However enjoyable, I think the real magic of this product is it’s ability to layer. Layering essences, sure. Even serums. But moisturizer? I promise it’s really a game changer.
I find that this particular cream gives my skin a really nice tacky, dewy complexion. So, I recommend using this as a morning moisturizer underneath your favorite SPF. If you are feeling particularly dry this winter, then try layering this under the Hanskin Bio Origin the Cream. The citric acid in Hanskin cream brightens your complexion and takes care of wrinkles, while the Missha Snail Moisturizer plumps and hydrates. It’s truly a dream team combination.
You can really pull off this trick with any lightweight gel-type moisturizer topped off with a heavier, creamy one. If you have extra sensitive skin that’s constantly red for the harsh winter winds, try applying a light later of the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel and topping it off with a adequate layer of the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream. The aloe and propolis in the Benton gel will calm redness and bring irritation down, while the fragrance-free Klairs cream will add a much-needed dose of moisture.
The Acid Trick:
Vitamin C really is a tremendous ingredient for smoothing flaky patches of skin. It helps to brighten as well as smooth out texture. Meanwhile HA, or hyaluronic acid is the ultimate skin plumper. These molecules, which are naturally found in the body, give you skin a healthier and more youthful appearance almost immediately. Together, well, you get the ultimate rejuvenating treatment during wintertime.
Try adding one to three drops of the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum to the Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream and you’ll have a match made in heaven. What I love about the Klairs Vitamin C is that it’s super gentle, even for the most sensitive of skin types.
To make the deal even sweeter, the HA cream contains a variant of hyaluronic acid called sodium hyaluronate, which is basically the salt form of HA. This just means the molecule size is much smaller and better able to actually permeate your skin and do its job.
This little skin hack will help you create an amazing “Franken-product” that will save your skin this winter. Trust me.
Essential Layering:
My other go-to when the weather gets really dry is applying three layers of the Hanskin Hyaluron Skin Essence with two layers of the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Not all essences are created equal and these two are both tried and true holy grails that offer unique benefits. So why not get the best of both worlds when your skin needs it most?
The Hanskin Hyaluron Skin Essence is one of 2017’s Best of K Beauty Award winners for a reason. The consistency is slightly tacky but still very watery and you can feel it on your skin almost the entire day. That’s the magic of hyaluronic acid for you. That’s why this is one of my favorite essences to layer in winter.
Then there’s the other beloved Cosrx Snail Essence that I cannot live without. Even in summer this essence replaces some of my more intense serums to give my skin adequate hydration without causing my pores to act out. In winter, I like to up the anté and add two layers of this stuff to my Hanskin essence before putting on any ampoules or serums. I feel like this combination really suits my skin as the weather gets increasingly dry.
Of course, feel free to adjust to your skin type. But remember that it’s important to let one layer sink in a bit before adding the next. It lets you sort of check in with your skin and see how many layers will be a good match for your skin needs.
Bottom line:
Everybody gets affected by dry, cold weather. Dry skin can cause all kinds of problems, from acne to uneven texture. It’s important to give your skin the right level of moisture and protection to keep it balanced and glowing!
