Cruelty-free and eco-friendly products have become huge in the beauty world as consumers have become more ethical about the products they put on their face. Here at the Klog, we’re huge animal lovers, which is why we are so proud that Soko Glam curates RE:P (pronounced “repeat,” minus the “T”).
But what does it mean to be cruelty-free…
Cruelty-free, at its most basic, means that a product, or in this case a brand, has not been tested on animals. But often cruelty-free can be used to imply that though the manufacturer doesn’t test on animals, the supplier may or that testing was done in a foreign country where laws allow or require animal testing of consumer beauty products.
RE:P has been revolutionary in their adoption of cruelty free and Korea and Korean beauty brands are following suit. As of 2018, Korea has outlawed all animal testing. Unfortunately, this doesn’t put your favorite Korean beauty brands in the clear though because many of these products remain to be sold in China where animal testing is required prior to sale. RE:P brand, however, has never been officially launched and sold in China and formulations for its products have remained the same since 2016, when the brand was first certified.
But that’s not all…
