The Neogen Super Hydra Aqua Capsule Mask is unlike any other sheet mask. See why.
As much as I love the two-dollar microfiber sheet masks I buy in bulk, there’s something about those special kinds of sheet masks that spice up my typical night routine. Granted, I’d still be sitting on my couch alone watching Criminal Minds, but somehow it’s more exciting to bum around with a hydrogel mask on than a microfiber one.
But the sheet mask I’m talking about today is not the typical hydrogel or bio-cellulose mask you know of. It’s a mask with a hyaluronic acid capsule that you break right before use for the freshest sheet mask experience.

As the name of the mask suggests, this is a mask that focuses on hydration. The top part of the mask is a capsule that holds an essence with hyaluronic acid, which is a common ingredient well-known for its hydrating properties. But the hyaluronic acid here stands out in that it contains three different sizes of hyaluronic acid molecules, the smallest of which is capable of retaining twice the moisture of its standard size counterpart.
The mask below the capsule comes pre-soaked in an essence with ceramides, avocado oil, mushroom and witch hazel extract. All in all, the ingredients combine to deeply hydrate your skin and to give it a boost of moisture.
How to use this mask:
This is the fun part. Hold capsule at the top like I do below and snap the capsule in half. You’ll hear (and feel) the plastic breaking.
This releases the hyaluronic acid from the capsule into the sheet mask below. Gently massage the packet to help with the flow.
Another tip is to lay the packet down on a flat surface and smooth the essence around with your palm. This helps distribute the essence more evenly.
Once that’s done, you’re ready to take out the sheet mask. Find the opening at the bottom. The sheet mask is literally drenched in essence—it’s definitely a lot more than what I’m used to—and you’ll be amazed by how soft it is. The fabric is trademarked, and it’s designed to perfectly stick to your face and impart all the nutrition to your skin.
If a hydrogel mask makes you feel like you’re petting a dolphin, this one feels like you’re holding a wet 20-ply toilet paper (in a good way). It’s extremely gentle and cooling on the skin.
Another thing that stands out with this mask is that the bottom part is long enough to wrap underneath your chin. This shape allows the mask to hydrate a larger portion of your face compared to most other sheet masks, and it also helps the mask stick onto every contour of your face. Even if you get up and walk around, this mask won’t slide off.
Leave it on for 10-20 minutes.
There’s an insane amount of essence left in the pack, so in the meantime, you can stick your hand in there and apply the remaining essence on your neck, limbs, hands, and feet. When you have this much essence left, the possibilities are endless—you can see more sheet mask hacks here.
Even though my skin generally behaves, sometimes I get redness around my nose and cheeks, which makes me look blotchy. In just 20 minutes, my skin was visibly brighter and softer than before.
The mask is thicker than most microfiber masks I’ve tried, but my face felt comfortable, rather than claustrophobic, throughout the 20 minutes. I also appreciated how soft the mask was so the edges didn’t feel abrasive on my skin, which is something I have experienced with the Nature Republic hydrogel masks.
To be honest, I don’t see why the hyaluronic acid must be kept in a capsule separate from the mask itself. But snapping the capsule in half does make the sheet masking experience more fun. I was also pleasantly surprised by how wearable it was and how it reduced my redness in such a short time. Since I’m on a budget, this mask is definitely a treat, but one that’s necessary to have on hand for days my skin craves intense hydration.
