I Tried The Korean Pudding Hair Dye and It Was Really Fun

If you’re a big K-beauty fan, you may have heard about the EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color, and you’re probably pretty intrigued. This Korean hair dye markets itself as a unique water-to-gel system that turns your liquid hair dye into pudding—texturally, of course. Well, I tried it and I’m here to report on how it works and if it’s worth the buy.

What exactly is it?
Marketed “as a pudding treat for your hair,” the EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color is supposed to be able to penetrate the hair better by creating a more thorough and even application. It’s infused with hair nourishing ingredients like camellia, olive, and avocado oil, as well as sage and aloe vera extract, which condition the hair and promote growth.
As far as ingredients go, this dye is definitely on the more nourishing side, so you can expect to have less damage than you would with a traditional hair dye.
How it works
The EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color comes with a mixing container with the colorant and developer inside, so all you have to do is pour equal amounts of both into the mixing cup and close it tightly until you hear the click.
Then you shake it for 30 seconds to a minute. Don’t shake it up and down—just side-to-side. I shook it for less than a minute and when I opened it, it definitely turned into a “pudding.” Note: Despite some reviews I read online, it does have a smell, but fortunately the smell isn’t from ammonia as this dye doesn’t contain it. The smell is unpleasant…but it doesn’t linger, so no worries!

After you mix it up, work quickly to apply it as evenly as possible. I would make sure to untangle your hair beforehand and work in sections to be certain you’re applying it appropriately. Although the pudding texture is supposed to make application seamless, it does tend to get a little goopy, which makes it harder to handle the longer you let it sit. Double check that your hair is as soaked as possible. I would suggest combing through your hair after application to make sure it’s perfect.
What you get in a box
The EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color comes with a cape, ear caps, and gloves—everything you would need to properly dye your hair. You’ll probably want to invest in some Vaseline (to further protect your skin from getting unnecessarily dyed) and have a barrette on hand to tie your hair up afterward.
The kit also includes EZN’s Angel Ring Hair Treatment, which left my hair feeling amazing after! As I was washing out the dye, my hair had that typical straw-like feeling you get with most dyes, but after putting the treatment in my hair and leaving it on for a few minutes, my hair was smooth as silk and didn’t feel damaged at all. I couldn’t stop touching it afterwards. If I could, I would invest in the treatment alone!

Final thoughts
As you can see in the GIFs above, the EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color lived up to its color promise! I was super impressed with the color payoff, because to be honest, I didn’t think it would show up at all over my dark brown hair. The dye was super simple to use and actually fun. Seriously, who doesn’t want to create a “pudding hair dye”?! I also really enjoyed the fact that it’s ammonia free and contains such nourishing ingredients. I love to go for a new look every once in the while, but hair care is important too, and this dye helps to achieve both.
However, my color did end up a bit uneven, especially on my sideburns and along my hair line. This was unexpected, since I started applying the dye there first, but I think it was a result of the fact that I have such thick hair and needed two boxes to achieve the perfect amount of color. Which brings me to my next point: If you have longer hair or shorter hair that is on the thicker side—buy two boxes. Also, I noticed that the color is still rinsing out in the shower after washing my hair, and I’ve washed my hair twice since dyeing it. This might mean that this dye could fade quicker than expected so I’m not sure about its staying power.
Overall, if you’re looking to achieve a vibrant color—especially if you have a darker natural hair color—the EZN Shaking Pudding Hair Color is great! It really works to nourish the hair and prevent any unnecessary hair damage. And thanks to the treatment, my hair feels better than before I dyed it.
Quick tip:
To ensure your hair remains strong, try to maintain a proper conditioning routine post-dye by applying nourishing mask once a week. The Skinfood Argan Oil Repair Plus Treatment Mask is a great reconstructive oil treatment that’ll help to prevent your hair from becoming dry, brittle, and damaged.
